Biotope

Boletus pinophilus grows usually in mycorrhiza with pines (Pinus), less often with beeches (Fagus) or spruces (Picea) prefering poor sandy soils.

Macroscopic and microscopic features

Cap: brown to red-brown, often wrinkled. The surface of young fruitbodies white tomentose.

Tubes: white when young, then yellow to olive-yellow.

Context: without color change, taste and aroma pleasant.
